Truus is an aspiring soldier, Hannie is a law student, and Freddie (the younger sister of Truus) is just here for a good time. Disarming Girls is a movement-led, neoteric take on the incredible true story of these three women living in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands. Their involvement in the Dutch Resistance leads to their ultimate mission: seducing Nazi officers to their execution. A chorus of three other women builds the environment, inhabits characters, and guides the audience through this reimagining. DG is playful in its examination of how Truus, Hannie, and Freddie used their “femininity” to great advantage, but also brutal in its exploration of war and trauma.
